At its January meeting, the Bartlesville Board of Education will consider designating Michael Harp as the future Principal of Bartlesville High School. He has been an Assistant Principal at the school since 2018 and in the summer of 2022 will transition to the principalship when LaDonna Chancellor exits that role to become the district’s Executive Director of Teaching and Learning.
Harp commented, “I am very excited to serve the students and staff of Bartlesville High School in this new role. I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence established by LaDonna Chancellor and previous leadership of BHS. I am very excited for the future, and very thankful for our Bruin family.”
Harp has ten years of experience as an educator and a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a master’s degree in Education Administration, Curriculum, and Supervision from the University of Oklahoma. He was an interim assistant band director in Broken Arrow in 2011, the band director at McLoud from 2011 to 2014, and the band director and performing arts chair at Carl Albert High in the Midwest City-Del City district from 2014 to 2018. The Oklahoma Association of Secondary School Principals named him as a finalist for 2022 Assistant Principal of the Year, and he has led the social media efforts for Bartlesville High School along with his many other duties as one of its assistant principals.
Harp is a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Board for Boy Scouts of America’s Cherokee Area Council and a member of the Bartlesville Symphony Orchestra’s Board of Directors.
An assistant principal opening for 2022-2023 at Bartlesville High School has been posted, and a candidate to fill might also be named at the January 17 school board meeting.
